Position Summary

A California registered technician who under the supervision of a Pharmacist, packages, prepares and compounds oral medications, Intravenous medications, and Chemotherapy/Biohazard medications. Maintains control procedures, performs inventory, and stock control.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Performs sterile compounding technician functions accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ensure compliance with USP 797 & 800 at all times.
  • Utilize proper aseptic technique for all pharmaceutical mixing.
  • Order, receive, and maintain accurate medication inventory.
  • Coordinate with Specialty Pharmacies or manufactures for timely deliveries of medications for infusion.
  • Perform routine daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning as required.
  • Procure and maintain supplies necessary for daily mixing operation.
  • Prescription order entry and process.
  • Coordination and submission of prior authorizations.
  • Determination of patient’s prescription benefits and seeks appropriate financial assistance when applicable.
  • Order, receive and maintain accurate medication inventory.
  • Assist with routing and release of prescriptions to the appropriate pharmacy.
  • Properly label and fills prescription drugs.
  • Ensures efficient and productive operation of assigned work location.
  • Acts as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning basic pharmaceutical information to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Assist the pharmacist in billing pharmaceuticals.
  • Accurately prepares floor stock orders and refill all kits.
  • Performs inspections of all pharmacy and all clinical areas where medications are stored and submits audit report to the appropriate individual.
  • Maintains appropriate level of productivity and accuracy
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Fosters the development of teamwork within the department while meeting the needs of departments being served.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Follows all policies and procedures to allow for effective and efficient patient care.

Qualifications

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • High School or equivalent or
  • Post High School vocational/specialized training or
  • Graduation from a foreign school of Pharmacy
  • Less than 3 years of performing related duties as a pharmacy technician
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the California State Board of Pharmacy

             

Preferred Education:    

  • Graduate from a Pharmacy Technician training program

             

             

             

Preferred Experience:   

  • Experience with Pyxis Medstation system, oncology.

  • Minimum hourly rate: $20.417308
  • Maximum hourly rate: $29.605288
  • Position(s) available throughout Orange County Foundation sites (Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Irvine and Newport Beach).
