City of Hope seeks an accomplished physician–leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, overseeing clinical operations, program development, faculty mentorship, and research across our Los Angeles and Orange County campuses. Position Overview
The Chair will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for a department central to the care of patients with hematologic malignancies and complex transplant needs. The role spans clinical operations, academic advancement, and research innovation, requiring a dynamic leader with experience in matrixed environments and a commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Serve as the principal physician leader for Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, setting the vision for clinical, academic, and research excellence.
- Foster a culture of collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (e.g., medical oncology, cellular therapy, supportive care) to deliver seamless, patient-centered care.
- Champion quality, safety, and innovation in clinical and administrative practice.
Clinical Operations
- Oversee day-to-day operations across two campuses, ensuring high-quality, efficient care delivery for hematology and transplant patients.
- Drive performance metrics, resource allocation, and operational workflows to optimize patient access and outcomes.
- Partner with enterprise leadership to align departmental goals with institutional priorities.
Program Development
- Expand and enhance programs in hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation, including CAR-T and cellular therapies.
- Lead strategic growth initiatives to strengthen clinical volumes, research capabilities, and regional presence.
Faculty Mentorship & Recruitment
- Recruit, retain, and mentor a team of physicians and scientists, fostering academic productivity and career development.
- Build a collaborative environment that supports faculty engagement and scholarly achievement.
Research & Innovation
- Advance translational and clinical research in hematologic malignancies and transplantation.
Promote integration of research into clinical practice, leveraging City of Hope’s robust infrastructure and resources.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation range is $425K-$550K plus participation in a leadership incentive program.
- Excellent benefits, including a generous retirement contribution plan; relocation assistance available.
- Base salary will be tailored to the candidate’s reputation and experience; base compensation is exclusive of incentive pay and benefits. The position includes recruitment incentives and participation in a leadership incentive program.

Qualifications
- MD or MD/PhD; Board Certification in Hematology or Hematology/Oncology; eligible for California licensure.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine, preferably within a matrixed cancer center environment.
- Proven track record in clinical operations, program development, and faculty mentorship.
- Strong commitment to research and innovation in hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation.
