As a successful candidate, you will:

The Executive Director, Technology & AI Products is a system-level executive responsible for defining, executing, and scaling City of Hope’s enterprise AI and digital product strategy. This role provides leadership through Directors, Senior Managers, and Managers, and is accountable for outcomes across multiple departments delivering AI-enabled products and platforms for patients, caregivers, clinicians, staff, and researchers.

This executive leads the agent-first evolution of the health system, transforming legacy workflows into intelligent, AI orchestrated experiences through modern agent design, applied machine intelligence, and scalable product platforms. The role combines deep healthcare product leadership with hands-on fluency in modern AI development methodologies to drive innovation, operational excellence, and long-term enterprise value.

Operating at national scale, the Executive Director addresses highly complex, ambiguous challenges requiring independent judgment, technical depth, and strategic foresight, with decisions that shape City of Hope’s clinical, research, and digital future.

Duties & Responsibilities

AI & Product Strategy and Architecture:

  • AI & Product Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction through Directors/Senior Managers across AI product management, digital platforms, data-driven services, and experience design.

  • Maintain accountability for performance, adoption, and value realization across AI and technology product portfolios.

  • Lead cross-functionally to execute a cohesive enterprise AI/product strategy aligned to clinical care, research, education, and operations.

AI Product Strategy & Agent-Centered Architecture:

  • Define and maintain an enterprise AI product strategy focused on agent-based systems, intelligent orchestration, and humanintheloop design.

  • Lead the agentification of legacy workflows leveraging appropriate human-/clinician-in-the-loop safeguards and guidelines.

  • Establish architectural patterns for multi-agent systems, decision intelligence, orchestration layers, and AI-enabled platforms that scale securely.

  • Partnering closely with data science and engineering SMEs, guide responsible adoption of foundation models, fine-tuned models, and hybrid AI architectures for regulated healthcare.

Portfolio Leadership, Delivery & Performance:

  • AI Product Portfolio Management & Enablement

  • Oversee the full lifecycle from ideation/experimentation through deployment, optimization, and retirement.

  • Balance rapid prototyping with enterprise-grade reliability, compliance, and clinical safety.

  • Drive prioritization, roadmaps, financial stewardship, and measurable outcomes across initiatives.

  • Partner closely with engineering, data, security, and clinical informatics for scalable solutions.

  • Modern AI Development & Prototyping Methodologies

  • Champion rapid prototyping, iterative model evaluation/validation, human-/clinician-in-the-loop design, agile/product-led delivery.

  • Establish best practices for transitioning POCs to governed, production solutions.

  • Promote reuse of AI components, agents, and platforms to accelerate delivery and reduce duplication.

  • Performance Measurement & Optimization

  • Establish enterprise KPIs/OKRs to measure impact (patient outcomes, clinician experience, research productivity, operational efficiency).

  • Oversee the implementation and utilization of agent-forward resources, leveraging real-time reporting and analytics to maintain quality and exceed user expectations

  • Use data/analytics/feedback loops to optimize AI systems and agent performance.

  • Continually measure internal and vended AI solutions, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of the rapidly evolving ecosystem.

Governance, Risk, Compliance & Responsible AI:

  • Contribute to established AI governance bodies (risk management, data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance).

  • Partner with Data Science, Compliance, Risk, Security, Privacy, Legal for ethical and transparent AI use.

  • Support system-wide risk initiatives and evolving governance models for compliant AI at scale.

Change Management, Adoption & People Leadership:

  • Change Management & AI Adoption

  • Lead enterprise change management across clinical, operational, and research domains.

  • Enable workforce readiness via education, training, and new operating models integrating AI into daily workflows.

  • Foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and responsible innovation.

  • People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Provide direct/indirect leadership for 35+ employees across product, design, analytics, and platform functions.

  • Build high-performing, multidisciplinary teams (product, clinical, data, engineering).

  • Develop leadership capability, succession, and modern AI product skillsets across the organization.

Ecosystem, Commercialization & Financial Stewardship:

  • Partner & Ecosystem Management

  • Oversee strategic relationships with AI vendors, cloud providers, academic collaborators, and technology partners.

  • Negotiate contracts, manage service delivery, and ensure alignment to enterprise standards.

  • Commercialization of Internal AI IP

  • Identify, mature, and commercialize internal AI capabilities/platforms/IP.

  • Develop and implement proven integration methodologies with existing platforms, maximizing utilization while minimizing user abrasion.

  • Partner with research, innovation, legal, and business development on monetization, licensing, and partnerships.

  • Ensure alignment with mission, ethics, and long-term strategy.

  • Financial & Investment Leadership

  • Develop and oversee budgets across AI and technology product departments.

  • Ensure rigorous business cases, ROI analysis, and investment discipline.

  • Balance innovation, risk, and financial sustainability for long-term growth.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, information technology or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in digital product leadership, healthcare technology, or related fields.

  • 7–10+ years of people leadership, including managing managers and multi-function teams.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related discipline

  • Matrixed health system, product development, design thinking, business development, hospital operations experience preferred

  • Demonstrated experience delivering AI-enabled products, intelligent platforms, or data-driven systems at enterprise scale.

  • Strong fluency in modern AI concepts, agent-based systems, and product-led technology strategy within regulated environments.
