Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse in the Hematology Ambulatory Clinics delivers compassionate, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing evaluation and treatment for hematologic malignancies and benign hematologic conditions. The nurse collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, interdisciplinary care teams, and support services to ensure safe, coordinated, and patient-centered care across the outpatient continuum.  This opportunity is for per diem, 10-hour shifts, and is designated for the day shift (7:00am start time). The per diem flat rate for this position is $78.52/hr. There is a minimum of 1 shift per week availability required for per diem and the department's current need is primarily for Friday coverage.  

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, intervention, triage, and evaluation for hematology patients receiving outpatient therapy, transfusions, and disease management services.
  • Administer medications— including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, and supportive infusions— in compliance with institutional protocols and safety standards.
  • Perform nursing procedures such as vascular access device care, transfusion administration, symptom management, and patient education.
  • Utilize critical thinking to identify changes in patient status and appropriately escalate to providers.
  • Participate in care planning, case management, and coordination with the interdisciplinary team to promote seamless transitions of care.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, symptom expectations, medication management, infection prevention, and survivorship resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, patient safety objectives, and evidence-based nursing practices throughout the ambulatory hematology clinics.
  • Adhere to City of Hope standards for compassionate care, patient dignity, and a culture of healing.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required. If ADN only, must be currently enrolled in a BSN program and must obtain BSN within two years of hire or transfer. 
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care setting and/or outpatient setting
  • Experience in Oncology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) preferred
  • Chemotherapy/ Biotherapy Certificate or Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy Certificate (Must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
