City of Hope is home to one of the largest and most successful bone marrow transplant programs in the nation, with over 18,000 transplants performed across our cancer centers in Duarte, Phoenix, Chicago, and Atlanta.
Our Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit delivers comprehensive, specialized care to patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation for hematologic malignancies, genetic disorders, and select autoimmune diseases. In addition to standard chemotherapy and immunotherapy, the unit provides CAR T-cell therapy and supports a broad range of clinical trials, working closely with clinical research nurses to administer investigational therapies.
The unit is designed to support patients throughout the entire transplant journey—from pre-transplant evaluation through post-transplant recovery and long-term follow-up—in a highly collaborative, patient-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment & Monitoring
Perform comprehensive assessments before, during, and after transplantation
Monitor vital signs, identify complications early, and manage transplant-related symptoms
Care Coordination
Collaborate with physicians, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, and other specialists
Coordinate treatments, procedures, medications, and specialty consultations
Patient & Family Education
Educate patients and caregivers on the transplant process, risks, benefits, and expectations
Provide guidance on medication adherence, side-effect management, and recognizing complications
Symptom Management & Support
Manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and mucositis
Administer medications, provide comfort measures, and offer emotional support
Infection Prevention
Adhere to strict infection control protocols essential for immunocompromised patients
Educate patients and visitors on hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and prevention strategies
Documentation & Communication
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Communicate patient status and changes effectively with the interdisciplinary care team
Full time Days / 12-shift 7:00am - 7:300pm
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
- Current California RN license
- Minimum of three (3) years related experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
- Chemotherapy/ Biotherapy Certificate or Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy Certificate (Must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
