Manager, Pharmaceutical Procurement

The Pharmacy Procurement Manager plans, directs, and coordinates all pharmaceutical and medical supply purchasing to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective pharmacy operations. The role ensures compliance with licensing, regulatory, and medication safety standards across procurement, storage, inventory, and quality management to support the overall success of City of Hope.
The Manager oversees drug inventory to prevent shortages and waste, monitors and addresses drug supply disruptions, and stays informed of pharmaceutical market changes. As the subject matter expert in alternative procurement strategies and specialty products, the role tracks market trends, payer contracts, and pricing opportunities.
Additionally, the Pharmacy Procurement Manager supervises day-to-day purchasing activities, ensures regulatory and budgetary compliance, tracks expenses, forecasts budgets, and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of new technologies, pharmacy services, and drug therapies and their institutional impact.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Uses Lean principles to provide Just-In-Time inventory to remote stocked areas.
Proactively uses reports to minimize excessive stock.
Optimize medication inventory par levels to avoid stockouts and reduce waste.
Manage all aspects of daily medication orders and contracts with distributors and pharma.
Utilize Value Stream Mapping to improve efficiency in pharmacy operations.
Record necessary information for compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act.
Oversee controlled substances ordering and required documentation.
Ensures all FDA, CA BOP and DEA requirements are met.
Review 340B program purchases an ensure compliance.
Conduct pricing analyses, identify cost drivers, develop strategies to support cost efficient procurement.
Review purchasing trends and expenses and optimize contract negotiating with suppliers and distributers.
Meets with pharmaceutical representatives, completes a clinical assessment of the product, technology or service and creates a cost impact review for review and approval of the pharmacy executive team.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm D
4 years’ experience in a hospital pharmacy setting, includes at least 2 years of supply chain experience and completion of PGYI and PGY 2 residency, including Pharmacy Administration.
1 to 2 years of experience in leading or supervisory capacity
Current Pharmacist License
