The Medical Support Specialist at City of Hope plays a vital role in supporting both oncology and non-oncology patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Advanced Practice Provider (APP). This role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure high-quality, timely, and compassionate care.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Assist with patient care activities, including vital signs, injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and EMR documentation
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms, maintain supplies, and support clinical procedures
  • Support telehealth visits and patient communication
  • Coordinate appointments and follow-up care as directed
  • Maintain patient safety and infection control standards
  • Participate in performance improvement and staff development activities
  • Uphold City of Hope’s standards of excellence, compliance, and customer service

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent AND graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Two years as a Medical Assistant in an acute care or clinic setting. Experience performing lab tests, processing lab and diagnostic study orders, and following up on patient care needs (inpatient or outpatient). Experience with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Must meet one of the additional requirements:
    • Infusion scheduling via electronic medical record (EMR)
    • Mentoring and/or precepting new and current staff
    • Assisting with clinic throughput decisions
    • Participate on a quality improvement team
  • AHA BLS Certification
  • Medical Assistant with active license/certificate.
  • Required to maintain active license during employment in the role.
