The Senior Executive Director of Prospect Research, Identification and Management leads prospect research, transformative gifts research, and prospect management teams, and is responsible for overseeing and managing functions that provide prospect research and prospect management in support of the Office of Philanthropy at City of Hope.

Through research, identification, tracking, data acquisition and analysis, the Senior Executive Director of Prospect Research deepens City of Hope’s institutional knowledge of its prospects by playing a vital role in helping the Office of Philanthropy meet its goals for prospecting, fundraising, engagement, communications, and stewardship. In partnership with the AVP and other leadership, the Senior Director of Prospect Research establishes the strategic vision, standards, and goals of the three functions and leads the development and implementation of best practices in support of a sophisticated, state-of-the-art prospect research and management shop.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Provide leadership and supervision for three functions to ensure that each provides a high level of service to all stakeholders and works collaboratively to meet City of Hope goals.

  • Determine the strategic vision for the department, including short- and long-term staffing and growth plans; develop, socialize, and implement current and long-range program plans and operational goals in cooperation with the short- and long-term strategic plan.

  • Partner with the Philanthropy BI team to lead the development of maps, reports, dashboards, and other tools to provide revealing views of potential prospects and enable informed decisions that lead to increased revenue.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, enhancement, and management of a data-driven prospect management and tracking program to help guide the identification, assignment, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors in an organized and timely way

  • Provide leadership for the development, socialization, implementation, and adoption of OOP-wide policies and procedures that assist in the efficient management and coordination of all activities related to prospect research.

  • Build out and maintain a suite of standardized research products (research request types) and ensure that the products maintain the highest level of accuracy and professionalism

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

Minimum Experience: 

  • 10+ years of management experience in prospect development; combination of advanced degree and 7 years of experience may substitute

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven management skills and experience in establishing a team- and goal-oriented environment that empowers staff through active communication and delegation.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a prospect management and tracking system

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparation of detailed analytical reports and briefings for use by institution leadership; ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with development officers on portfolio evaluations.

  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies, techniques, and systems is required.

  • Extensive experience analyzing high-volumes of data from varying sources; demonstrated familiarly with industry-standard sources of data (e.g. LexisNexis, WealthEngine, Foundation Center, RelSci, Dataquick, SEC, Hoovers, Boardex, Zillow, wealthscreening data)
