A Staff Scientist position is available in the research laboratory of Adam de Smith, PhD, at City of Hope, Duarte, CA. The lab’s research in the Department of Pediatrics focuses on the etiology of childhood acute leukemia. We use molecular and epidemiological methodologies to advance our understanding of the germline genetic risk, somatic drivers, and early-life origins of childhood leukemia, with the ultimate goal of developing strategies for disease prevention.
The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Staff Scientists will bring special skills, knowledge and experience to research programs or institutional core laboratories. Individuals appointed as staff scientists will receive a one-year fixed-term contract.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Conduct data analysis in genetic epidemiological studies of childhood leukemia
Implement and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for reproducible, large-scale data processing
Assist with manuscript preparation across research projects in the lab
Assist with laboratory management of biospecimens and protocols
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
The Staff Scientist must possess, at a minimum, the U.S. equivalent Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline, and will often have a Ph.D. or other doctoral level degree.
Preferred qualifications:
PhD degree in a relevant biomedical field
Research experience in genetic epidemiology
Expertise in data analysis and interpretation
Excellent computational skills, including in multiple programming languages
Evidence of scientific rigor and excellence as documented by peer-reviewed publications, as a first/lead author.
