City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix. Our dedicated and compassionate employees are driven by a common mission: To deliver the cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today.

City of Hope is undergoing a transformative evolution of its commercialization and strategic partnerships organization to accelerate the translation of scientific innovation into impactful solutions for patients. As part of this journey, the Senior Director, Commercial Assessment & Venture Business Cases will play a pivotal role in shaping a next-generation commercialization engine.

This leader will drive rigorous, data-driven commercial assessments and business cases across a diverse portfolio—including therapeutics, diagnostics, digital health, AI-enabled tools, and platform technologies. By integrating market insights, clinical value, and financial modeling, this role will help determine the most effective pathways for advancing opportunities, including licensing, partnerships, venture creation, or new company formation. The position partners closely with senior leadership, researchers, investors, and external advisors to bring breakthrough innovations closer to patients.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Lead commercial assessments for a broad portfolio of innovations, including therapeutics, diagnostics, and emerging technologies
  • Evaluate market opportunity, competitive positioning, clinical value, and commercialization potential
  • Develop go/no-go recommendations to guide licensing, partnerships, and venture creation decisions
  • Build comprehensive business cases including market sizing, revenue potential, and risk-adjusted scenarios
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking, deal analysis, and valuation assessments
  • Partner with scientific founders and advisors to shape new company concepts and development strategies
  • Identify key gaps across data, regulatory, IP, and commercialization readiness
  • Create executive-ready materials including investment memos, pitch decks, and diligence packages
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business development, IP, finance, legal, and research teams
  • Support development of standardized frameworks, templates, and assessment methodologies

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD, PharmD, MPH) strongly preferred
  • 8–12+ years of experience in life sciences commercial strategy, venture creation, biotech/pharma, consulting, or related fields
  • Proven experience developing commercial assessments, investment cases, and revenue models for early-stage assets
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and strategic thinking capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience in oncology, precision medicine, diagnostics, AI-enabled healthcare solutions, or related areas preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in complex, matrixed environments
  • Ability to evaluate early-stage opportunities with incomplete data and drive actionable insights
