The Senior Director of Development, Individual Giving will ensure the fundraising success of the philanthropic program by serving as a subject matter expert and professional role model. This leader contributes to a high-performing, collaborative Office of Philanthropy by advancing key initiatives focused on transparency, accountability, and performance outcomes.
This position plays a critical role in building long-term philanthropic relationships and driving mission-focused fundraising through strong engagement with volunteers, faculty, staff, and donors. The Senior Director partners across the organization to grow the pipeline of major gift donors, implement tailored cultivation strategies, and deliver measurable results that support City of Hope’s mission.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Achieve ambitious fundraising activity and revenue goals through a strong frontline focus on major gifts
- Develop and execute strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for donors with a focus on $100K+ gifts
- Build and maintain a robust portfolio of prospects, advancing them through the full fundraising lifecycle
- Identify and qualify new major gift prospects while expanding existing donor relationships
- Partner with faculty, physicians, and leadership to align philanthropic strategies with institutional priorities
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional fundraising initiatives to maximize donor engagement and impact
- Engage and mobilize volunteers to support fundraising efforts and strategic initiatives
- Represent City of Hope in donor-facing activities, meetings, and events to strengthen relationships and drive results
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members when applicable, fostering accountability and high performance
- Analyze programs and initiatives to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and measurable outcomes
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, philanthropy, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of fundraising, development, or related experience within a nonprofit or complex organization
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts, particularly at the $100K+ level
- Experience building and sustaining long-term donor relationships and meeting performance goals
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders including executives, physicians, and staff
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including donor-facing messaging
- Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members (if applicable)
- Ability to navigate complex environments and engage diverse stakeholders
- Exceptional organizational, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed
