Join the transformative team at City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix. Our dedicated and compassionate employees are driven by a common mission: To deliver the cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today.

A senior, embedded communications leader within the Office of the CEO, accountable for owning and shaping the CEO’s voice, narrative, and high-stakes communications across all audiences and contexts. This role is ideal for a high-judgment, low-ego strategic advisor who proactively shapes executive messaging, collaborates seamlessly across teams, and protects narrative coherence under pressure.

This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence aligned with the CEO’s schedule, as well as the flexibility to travel as needed to support executive engagements, conferences, and key events.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Establish and steward the CEO narrative and message architecture, ensuring consistency, clarity, and impact across all communications.
  • Serve as the primary drafting and synthesis engine for CEO-facing communications in close partnership with External, Internal, and Philanthropy Communications teams.
  • Create and own high-stakes content including remarks, speeches, memos, scripts, and op-eds.
  • Lead end-to-end briefing strategy for CEO engagements across internal, external, and donor-facing audiences.
  • Provide rapid, high-judgment communications support during sensitive, complex, or issues-driven moments.
  • Advise the CEO and Chief of Staff on language, tone, positioning, and narrative strategy.
  • Translate complex healthcare, research, and policy topics into compelling messages for a wide range of audiences.
  • Use data, operational insights, and policy information to shape clear, persuasive, and credible storytelling.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders to align messaging and communication priorities.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in executive communications, speechwriting, or advisory roles, ideally supporting a CEO or other senior public leader.
  • Deep experience translating complex healthcare, research, or policy topics for diverse audiences.
  • Strong data-informed storytelling skills and comfort using operational and policy data in narrative form.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and strategic framing abilities.
  • High discretion with strong political judgment and emotional intelligence.

·         Campaign-oriented communications mindset—tailoring a consistent core narrative for different audiences, understanding what will resonate across internal and external stakeholders and the broader external environment.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building and executive influence skills.
  • Comfort preparing materials for high-pressure environments and representing the CEO’s voice with confidence and precision.

If you are a strategic communicator who thrives in high-visibility environments and wants to help shape the voice of an organization transforming the future of cancer care, we encourage you to apply today.
