Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Business Operations Supervisor, the Clerical Specialist II position provides operational support for research and clinical activities within the Department of Pathology. This position is responsible for locating, retrieving, tracking, organizing, and distributing pathology materials, including formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks, glass slides, and related pathology records, in support of cancer research studies, clinical trials, and departmental initiatives.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Retrieve, accession, organize, and distribute pathology materials, including paraffin tissue blocks, glass slides, and associated reports, for approved research and clinical purposes.
- Process requests from investigators, pathologists, and research staff for pathology specimens and supporting documentation.
- Communicate with pathology laboratories, research coordinators, and investigators regarding specimen requests and status updates.
- Maintain accurate inventory and tracking records for pathology materials using laboratory information systems and departmental databases.
- Coordinate the transfer, return, and storage of pathology specimens in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
- Verify specimen identifiers and associated documentation to ensure accuracy and chain-of-custody compliance.
- Assist with filing, archiving, and retrieval of pathology reports and related records.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Up to one year experience in a hospital laboratory setting preferred, working with clinical laboratory specimens and staff
