The Program Director, Pharmacy Education and Professional Excellence provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all workforce training, continuous education, professional advancement, postgraduate residency programs, and students within the pharmacy. This position is directly responsible for initial program planning, curriculum architecture, and long-term compliance of employee training pathways spanning licensed pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and students.

The Program Director serves as the institutional liaison for ASHP residency accreditation, leading efforts to achieve, maintain, and defend accreditation while advancing the health system’s educational strategy. This role standardizes onboarding, accelerates competency development through innovative instructional methods and automation, and aligns cross-functional education with ANCC Magnet frameworks. Success requires close collaboration and regular communication with pharmacy leadership, clinical pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians at National Medical Center – Duarte.

 

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Responsible for the training program’s absolute compliance with state Board of Pharmacy laws, Department of Public Health standards, and federal healthcare provisions.

  • Develops and executes a rigorous compliance roadmap to maintain active ASHP accreditation for all Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) and Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency programs.

  • Reviews, interprets, and adapts departmental training structures to align with newly revised and evolving national accreditation guidelines, institutional competencies, and quality metrics.

  • Prepares for, coordinates, hosts, and leads all follow-up reporting for ASHP accreditation site visits.

  • Collaborates with pharmacy leaders to build, audit, and approve uniform training policies for clinical, safety, USP, and other pharmacy practice areas.

  • Maintain and manage the Learning Management System for all competencies and training (via MyLearning) that can include the Pharmacy System staff.

  • Establishes and chairs the Pharmacy Education and Professional Excellence Committee aligning education initiatives with system-wide initiatives, providing oversight of the Residency Advisory Committee and Preceptors.

  • Implements professional tracking mechanisms (e.g., Board of Pharmacy Specialties [BPS] tracking) to optimize retention and advance practice.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.)

  • 6 years of experience planning and executing pharmacy programs with 10 years’ experience in a hospital setting                    

  • Current CA Pharmacy License

  • ASHP Accredited PGY1 Residency PGY2 Residencies, preferred

  • 5 years of experience in oncology, preferred
