The MUD Search Technologist plays a critical role in supporting stem cell transplant patients by identifying and coordinating unrelated donor matches through the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and other registries. This position combines expertise in HLA typing, donor search strategy, and patient-focused coordination to ensure timely and accurate donor selection. Working closely with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory teams, and external partners, the technologist helps drive successful transplant outcomes while maintaining quality, compliance, and regulatory standards.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Coordinate unrelated donor searches through NMDP and other registries, ensuring accurate documentation and timely follow-up.

  • Analyze HLA typing results and donor match data to identify the most suitable donor options for transplant patients.
  • Develop search strategies and manage the donor review process in collaboration with physicians, laboratory staff, and transplant teams.
  • Coordinate donor sample requests, track specimen receipt, and troubleshoot donor search or sample-related issues.
  • Maintain compliance with quality assurance standards, regulatory requirements, and departmental policies.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external partners to support seamless patient care and successful transplant outcomes.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • One year related experience as a Medical Technologist, or from a clinical hematopoietic transplant environment. 

  • Knowledge of HLA nomenclature and identification of donor specific antibody. 

  • State of California license for any of the following:

    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist)

    • California Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (limited)

    • Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (limited)
