Join the transformative team at City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix. Our dedicated and compassionate employees are driven by a common mission: To deliver the cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today.

The Executive Director, Strategy & Performance is a senior strategy leader responsible for turning enterprise priorities into actionable local and regional plans, compelling investment proposals, and measurable results. Serving as the primary connection between the System Strategy Office and entity leadership, this role aligns enterprise direction with local market dynamics and operational realities. You will partner with executive, clinical, operational, and financial leaders to create a disciplined, closed-loop approach from strategy and investment through execution, performance management, and value realization.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Translate enterprise strategy, growth objectives, and investment direction into entity strategic plans, roadmaps, and initiative portfolios.

  • Lead the development of entity-level business cases and investment proposals that demonstrate strategic alignment, financial rigor, feasibility, operational readiness, and clear implementation plans.

  • Adapt enterprise growth strategy to local market conditions, competitive dynamics, access needs, and emerging opportunities.

  • Identify and prioritize entity-specific growth opportunities and risks, turning market insights into actionable strategies and enterprise growth pipeline input.

  • Own the execution of strategic initiatives at the entity level in partnership with operations, clinical leadership, and project management teams.

  • Ensure strategic initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, aligned with enterprise priorities, and positioned to achieve intended outcomes.

  • Track strategic KPIs, growth and financial targets, and operational metrics; identify performance gaps and drive corrective action.

  • Serve as the primary interface between entity leadership and the System Strategy Office, facilitating alignment on priorities, investments, and tradeoffs.

  • Integrate strategy across clinical, research, operational, finance, access, and capacity-planning teams so it becomes embedded in daily decision-making.

  • Lead and develop the entity strategy team, business planning leads, or strategic initiative managers, as defined by entity needs.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field.

  • Ten or more years of experience in healthcare strategy, planning, or operations.

  • Seven or more years of leadership experience within complex provider organizations.

  • Demonstrated success translating strategy into execution and measurable performance outcomes.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare market dynamics and provider system operations.

  • Experience in business planning, investment development, and performance management.

  • Ability to lead effectively in a matrixed system with shared accountability across system and entity leadership.

  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder alignment, and data-informed decision-making capabilities.

  • Advanced command of Microsoft Office and business intelligence or analytical tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, SAS, or Sisense.

  • Experience in multi-entity health systems, academic medical centers, or oncology-focused organizations is preferred.
