Oncology Focused Care at City of Hope Chicago

City of Hope Chicago (Zion, IL) seeks a Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine physician to provide outpatient medical care for adults with cancer. Based at our hospital in Zion, Illinois, this role combines general Internal Medicine, preoperative medical assessment, and collaboration with oncology and supportive care teams to address patients’ medical needs throughout treatment and survivorship. 

Position highlights 

• Outpatient practice with a weekday schedule and no call responsibilities. 

• Collaboration with oncology specialists, hospitalists, surgery, anesthesia, cardiology, and supportive oncology colleagues.

Clinical responsibilities 

• Provide outpatient general internal medicine care for oncology patients without an established primary care provider, including management of acute and chronic medical conditions, preventive care, and coordination with the oncology team and community clinicians. 

• Perform preoperative medical evaluations, assess perioperative risk, and optimize medical conditions in collaboration with surgery, anesthesia, and cardiology. 

• Provide care in a transitional care clinic for patients following discharge from an inpatient stay, including medication reconciliation, review of pending results and follow up needs, and coordination with oncology, primary care, and other treating clinicians. 

• Provide outpatient general internal medicine services for City of Hope staff members as part of the assigned clinic practice. 

Program development 

Collaborate with clinical leaders to develop services according to agreed priorities, available resources, and allocated clinical and program development time. 

• Partner with supportive oncology to advance geriatric assessment, care coordination for older adults with cancer, and comprehensive survivorship services. 

• Work with hospitalists and ER physicians to create same day opportunities for outpatient evaluation, triage, and transitional care from inpatient to outpatient services. 

• Help lead development of an evidence-based weight management program, with particular collaboration with breast and gynecologic oncology and attention to nutrition, muscle preservation, and individual treatment goals. 

Compensation and benefits 

Base compensation range: $254,584-$350,660
