The Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, staff scheduling, performance management, quality outcomes, resource utilization, and departmental workflow to support optimal patient and operational outcomes.
Working collaboratively with leaders across City of Hope Arizona, the Supervisor will maintain a strong partnership with both the Cellular Therapy Inpatient Unit and Hematology Outpatient Clinic leadership teams to ensure seamless coordination of care. This unique dual-reporting relationship supports alignment of staffing, processes, and resources across inpatient and outpatient settings to meet the complex needs of cellular therapy patients.
Key responsibilities include staff development and engagement, implementation of quality improvement initiatives, budget planning support, regulatory readiness, and operational efficiency. The Supervisor serves as a clinical and operational resource for the team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
This role combines advanced oncology nursing expertise with strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills. As a critical liaison among interdisciplinary teams, the RN Supervisor plays an integral role in advancing strategic initiatives, supporting program growth, and ensuring exceptional care delivery throughout the Cellular Therapy service line.
The successful candidate:
Leadership and Management: Oversees nursing staff and daily operations in the Cellular Therapy Day Hospital, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards of care. Conducts regular performance reviews, provides feedback, and fosters professional development and training opportunities for staff. Partners with other leaders in the development, implementation and evaluation of Unit/Dept. goals and key performance indicators (KPI’s). Coordinates with healthcare team leaders to develop and implement nursing practices that enhance patient care quality and efficiency. Manages staffing requirements, including scheduling and resource allocation to optimize department functionality. Acts as a representative of the nursing teams in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss and resolve clinical and administrative issues. Identifies and responds to service recovery needs as identified by patients and/or other people in a position to understand service requirements.
Clinical Expertise: Ensures the delivery of competent and compassionate care to patients, upholding the standards of the Cellular Therapy program and the Values and Behaviors of City of Hope. Supervises the administration of treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other specialized medications, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Monitors patient care for quality and efficacy, responding to emergencies and changes in patient condition promptly.
Quality Improvement and Compliance: Leads quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and departmental efficiency using evidence-based practices. Collaborates with the Quality Management team to track, analyze, and report on performance metrics and outcomes. Investigates safety events, communicates solutions/resolutions of problems within the unit. Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, including state and federal laws, and nursing best practices. Addresses any discrepancies in care and implement corrective actions as needed.
Education and Mentorship: Facilitates ongoing education and training for nursing staff to ensure high standards of competency and care are maintained. Mentors nursing staff and assists in the orientation of new nurses, providing guidance and leadership in clinical and administrative matters. Assists in the development of training programs that cover essential nursing competencies, specialized oncology care/BMT techniques, and patient safety protocols. Encourages staff participation in professional development programs and continuing education to keep skills and knowledge up to date. Implements a feedback system for nursing staff to voice concerns and suggestions, enhancing the overall learning environment.
Operational Management: Acts as the resource by identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems. Collaborates with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient treatment plans and improve outcomes. Implements and ensures adherence to departmental, hospital, and City of Hope policies and procedures. Manages and addresses any issues related to the physical environment of the care areas, including equipment maintenance and setup. Develops strategies to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency across departments. Addresses logistical challenges in the delivery of care, ensuring that operational processes are aligned with patient care priorities.
Budget and Resource Management: Assists with the preparation of the budget and monitors departmental expenditures to ensure efficient use of resources. Ensures that the departments are adequately stocked with necessary supplies and medications, aligning with budget constraints. Monitors the utilization of resources to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality of care. Provides input into the financial planning and forecasting process to predict resource needs based on patient volume and departmental goals.
Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Stem Cell Transplant preferred
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate Course
- Arizona Registered Nurse License
