Join one of the top cancer centers in the nation! City of Hope Medical Group is seeking an Academic Surgical Pathologist to join our team in Duarte. As Chair of the Department of Pathology at City of Hope, we invite applications for a full-time academic surgical pathologist to join our clinical faculty at our flagship campus in Duarte, California.
This recruitment reflects our strategic commitment to strengthening subspecialty expertise and supporting the continued growth of our nationally recognized cancer program. We are particularly interested in candidates with fellowship training and clinical expertise in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Breast Pathology, Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, and other surgical pathology subspecialties relevant to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We seek a mission-driven academic pathologist who will support growing clinical volumes, contribute to translational research initiatives, and engage in education and mentorship. Our faculty are dedicated to interdisciplinary collaboration, high-impact scholarship, and delivering subspecialized diagnostic excellence within a nationally recognized cancer program.
As an academic medical center, City of Hope expects faculty to actively engage in scholarship through research and publication while also fulfilling a required commitment to teaching and mentorship of fellows, residents, and students, making both academic productivity and education fundamental responsibilities of this role.
Position Highlights
- Clinical responsibilities will include participation in subspecialized surgical pathology services within the Department of Pathology, with opportunities aligned to the candidate's training and expertise.
- Particular areas of departmental growth include Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Breast Pathology, Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, and Head and Neck Pathology.
- Join a multidisciplinary team of physicians and scientists at one of the nation's leading comprehensive cancer centers.
- Use digital pathology to provide subspecialty pathology expertise across City of Hope's growing Southern California and national cancer network.
- Collaborate closely with medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, researchers, and translational science teams dedicated to advancing cancer care.
- Develop and support translational, clinical, and collaborative research programs within the candidate's area of expertise.
- Participate in the training of fellows in our ACGME-accredited programs and contribute to resident and medical student education.
- Provide intraoperative consultations, participate in on-call rotations, and perform autopsy duties as part of the department's responsibilities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and disease-focused clinical conferences.
Position Benefits
- Excellent benefits package, including a generous retirement contribution plan.

- Base Salary Range: $310,000 to $480,000. The range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual compensation will be adjusted for experience, training, hospital/community need, and other factors.

Qualifications
- Applicants must have an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree and possess or be eligible for an unrestricted California medical license.
- Board certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or equivalent is required.
- Fellowship training in one or more pathology subspecialties is strongly preferred.
- Particular interest will be given to candidates with expertise in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Breast Pathology, Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, or related oncologic pathology disciplines.
- The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary clinical and research teams.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence through research, publication, teaching, mentorship, and participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs.
- Academic record consistent with appointment as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor is preferred.
