City of Hope Medical Group Seeks a Physician-Leader for our Department of Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at City of Hope National Medical Center is seeking an exceptional physician leader to serve as the Vice Chair and join our nationally recognized team of medical, surgical, and radiation specialists providing cutting edge cancer care in a world-class NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles. They will support the Chair for all administrative and medical activities occurring within the Department.

The Vice-Chair reports to the Chair of City of Hope’s Department of Anesthesiology, Michael “Jamie” Sullivan, M.D., M.S. This leadership role is crucial to continuing to advance the quality improvement and strategic development of the Department across the Enterprise at City of Hope National Medical Center.

The ideal candidate will be a respected physician leader specializing in anesthesiology, with proven leadership experience. They should exhibit a commitment to the advancement of patient care quality, compliance and regulatory efficiencies, and provide leadership and vision for the Department’s clinical services in an integrated academic medical center environment across the US.

  •  Opportunity to co-lead the expansion of the anesthesiology team within a growing enterprise
    • Full-time position leading an established and growing clinical faculty team
    • Team members include Physicians and CRNAs with plans to expand
  • Protected administrative time (20%)
    •  Primary clinical responsibility (80%) shared with Duarte-based faculty
  •  Duarte campus only
    • Inpatient hospital/outpatient surgery center: 19 sites (ORs, procedure rooms and NORA)
    •  No in house call
    • No cardiac, no trauma, no OB. Minimal peds cases

 

Position Highlights: 

As a faculty member, you will have access to our generous annual 401k and healthcare benefits, etc. Our current benefits are: 

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, STD, LTD, AD&D, life, Malpractice, CME allowance, 20 days paid vacation, 3 personal days, 18 sick days, 7 holidays, and 10 CME days.
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan: 20% of base salary not to exceed the plan (compensation limit of $305,000) and/or IRS annual compensation limit.
  • Annual academic improvement fund up to $5,000
  •  Base Salary: $420k (base pay commensurate with qualified academic rank). Additional recruitment incentives available!
    • The salary range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual compensation will be adjusted for experience, training, hospital/community need and other factors.
    • Additional hourly pay for coverage call: current average $6000 per/month
    • Anesthesiologists working in Duarte are eligible for call pay (Additional weekend coverage pay: $20k for 5 weekends per year)

This position is a rare opportunity to work in a 450+ member integrated, multidisciplinary Medical Group Practice serving an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in highly desirable Southern California, within our established Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Academic record consistent with appointment at Associate Professor or Professor level at City of Hope National Medical Center
  • The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain or already hold an active California medical license
  • Board certification required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably leading an anesthesiologist program
