The Arthur Giggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute (AR-DMRI) promotes new discoveries and innovation across pathophysiology, diabetes related complications and treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. The Department of Translational Research & Cellular Therapeutics (TRCT) which is under AR-DMRI, led by Fouad Kandeel, M.D., Ph.D., has translated landmark scientific discoveries into treatments that have improved the lives of diabetic patients around the world.  TRCT focuses on stem cell biology and development, translational and clinical research, islet isolation and distribution, islet isolation and quality assessment, islet imaging, islet encapsulation, and new drug discoveries.

 

The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Staff Scientists will bring special skills, knowledge and experience to research programs or institutional core laboratories.  Individuals appointed as staff scientists will receive a one-year fixed-term contract.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • A Ph.D. with a minimum of two years of mesenchymal stem cell research and extracellular vesical (EV) research experience.
  • Must have the ability to design and execute laboratory experiments, critically interpret experimental results, and present data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to participate in the preparation of grant applications, scientific publications, and IND submissions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in immunology and diabetes research, particularly Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
  • Expertise in EV biology. Such as isolation, purification and functional study. 
  • Ability to effectively develop projects in a translational research environment to meet project goals.
