The Registered Nurse IV will provide care to our patients in our community practice in Torrance, California.  The RN in Surgical Oncology plays a pivotal role in guiding the patients through the complex process of establishing care and initiating their cancer journey.  This position is focused on providing comprehensive support to patients from the moment of diagnosis through treatment planning and beyond. The RN IV facilitates access to necessary diagnostic tests, assists with scheduling appointments, patient education, triages patient calls, and collaborates closely with the physicians to ensure coordinated and patient-centered care is in place.

As a successful candidate, you will:

 

  • Patient Coordination and Support: Serve as a central point of contact for patients diagnosed with surgical oncology conditions, offering guidance and support to help them navigate the healthcare system and understand their treatment options.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Assist patients in scheduling appointments for consultations, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and follow-up visits, ensuring timely access to necessary care.
  • Diagnostic Test Coordination: Coordinate the scheduling of PET scans and other diagnostic tests as recommended by the physician, facilitating communication between the patient and the imaging department to ensure smooth and efficient scheduling.
  • Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, and supportive care resources available throughout their journey.
  • Triage Calls: Respond to patient inquiries, assess their needs, and provide appropriate guidance or referrals, collaborating closely with the healthcare team to address any concerns or issues.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Maintain open communication with healthcare providers, including oncologists, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for each patient.
  • Communicates physician referral requests to staff via EMR for necessary processing.
  • Ensures proper insurance authorization prior to treatment.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Adheres to all documentation guidelines as instructed by Practice Administrator and Clinical Director and provides accurate documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Clinical Director, Practice Administrator, or the physician.
  • Utilizes leadership skills in overseeing and assisting other members of the health care team to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree in Nursing acceptable if bachelor's degree is not in nursing
  • 3+ years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Current and valid California Registered Nurse Licensure
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current National certification, must be maintained in order to retain RN IV status
  • ONS Chemo/Bio Certificate (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • OCN certification (or to be obtained within 1 year of hire)
