We are looking for a Research Associate I to join the lab of Dr. Rupangi Vasavada. The overall goal of her lab is to understand the pathophysiology of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and identify therapeutics for its treatment.
You should be highly self-motivated, have a strong desire to learn, and have great compassion and interest with medical and biological research and excellent communication skills. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, you will perform a variety of in vitro and in vivo experiments.
This lab position requires training in molecular and cellular biology with an emphasis on metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Specific techniques that will be commonly used include tissue culture, isolation of RNA, DNA, and protein, RT-PCR, western blotting, basic mouse phenotyping (metabolic parameters and tissue collection), DNA extraction, PCR analysis, histological techniques, fluorescent microscopy, computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheet management, adobe photoshop, Image J), and lab organization skills (organizing safety information and training, inventory management, ordering supplies and record keeping).

As a successful candidate you will:
· Utilize laboratory equipment and established protocols to perform a variety of research experiments.
· Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
· Write standard operating procedures and reports.
· Maintain records of work performed including results and methodology, utilizing records may calculate, graph and compile data.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
· Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences
· 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience
