City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Wound/Ostomy Certified Nurse (WOCN) to assess, diagnose, and develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients with wounds, ostomies, or incontinenece. This role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to provide expert care, education, and support to patients and their families. The CWON will manage the prevention, treatment, and healing of chronic and acute wounds, provide ostomy care, and offer solutions for incontinence-related issues. As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of wounds, ostomies, and fistulas.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients with ostomies or complex wounds, ensuring evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated, holistic patient care.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education on ostomy management, skin care, wound prevention, and product use.
  • Assist with ostomy appliance fitting and troubleshooting to prevent complications and enhance patient comfort.
  • Monitor wound healing and adjust treatment protocols in coordination with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Document all patient interactions and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and wound care audits.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff nurses on best practices in wound and ostomy care.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or master’s degree in nursing is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related experience.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association
  • Must be certified in Wound/ Ostomy Care Nursing; acceptable certifications are: CWOCN, CWOCN-AP, or WCC
