The main responsibilities of the Manager, Corporate Accounting, are to provide a strong review, assessment and stewardship of the accounting and control environment for City of Hope, specifically around Fixed Assets and Lease Accounting. This role is accountable for developing, maintaining, and monitoring compliance with a governance framework through liaising with internal stakeholders as well as the organization’s external auditors.
This position will also be responsible for leading, engaging and developing a team of direct reports. The associate in this role will be expected to work with direct reports in creating an environment of continuous improvement relative to work product as well as efficiency of operations.
Further, this position will be accountable for various month end close responsibilities, including but not limited to approval (and preparation in select instances) of journal entries, preparation of various system level financial schedules pertaining to leases and fixed assets (including involvement in quarterly disclosures and the year-end audit), and establishing a methodology to ensure timely review of applicable balance sheet reconciliations.
Additionally, the person in this role will be required to make a recommendation as to how to close any gaps within the Fixed Asset and Lease Accounting area which could present a financial misstatement and/or governance concern. As noted above, this recommendation should be based on discussions with the manager as well as the internal audit team where necessary.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Understand and support the institutional and departmental goals, strategies, and policies and procedures; work with direct reports in carrying out expected responsibilities and deliverables in an efficient manner while also promoting a deeper understanding of the organization throughout the team. Will need to be able to embrace change in the complex healthcare industry, adapting as necessary.
- Develop and manage proper control environment to support the effective financial reporting of leases and fixed assets in accordance with US GAAP.
- Manage and perform all accounting matters relates to lease accounting from classification to entering journal entries.
- Monitor leases to ensure timely accounting for changes – modifications/terminations - associated with leases.
- Manage and direct overall fixed assets accounting to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Support the Health System’s quarterly/annual reporting and associated Audit requirements; this will require communications with various system leads as it relates to Fixed Asset and Leases.
- Plan, delegate, and monitor workflow of direct reports to ensure employees are performing at a high caliber, while ensuring integrity of the financial statements.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or Business related field.
- 5-7 years of related experience, preferably in a corporate finance role.
- 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity.
- CPA License preferred.
