We are looking for a talented Research Associate I to join the lab of Dr. Chintan Parekh. You will perform a variety of routine and increasingly complex research experiments to support the lab in defining the molecular mechanisms underlying normal human blood development (hematopoiesis) and leukemogenesis. This is an exciting opportunity that provides great research experience for candidates interested in a career in medicine, basic science research, or translational research.
You will be responsible for the following tasks:
1) Isolate and study hematopoietic cells from cord blood, thymus, and patient leukemia samples
2) Process blood samples collected from patients and isolate and study peripheral mononuclear blood cells
3) Perform molecular biology techniques that will involve but not limited to tissue processing, magnetic column-based cell separation, DNA and RNA extraction, flow cytometry, and tissue culture.

As a successful candidate, you will:
· Utilize laboratory equipment and established protocols, perform a variety of research experiments and record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
· Write and update standard operating procedures and reports as directed by supervisor.
· Maintain records of work performed electronically including results and methodology; utilizing records may calculate, graph and compile data.
· Develop techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to laboratory research projects.
· Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of materials.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
· Bachelor’s degree in biology or biology related fields such as Biochemistry with 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience. Prior laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
· Be meticulous, motivated, enthusiastic and eager to learn.
· Clear communication and being able to work collaboratively in a team setting is highly valued.
