The successful candidate:

This is a Full-time, Onsite position at the hospital located in Newnan, Georgia Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST

RHIT certification is strongly desirable!

The Senior Health Information Managment Representative will assist with the daily operation of HIM responsibilities including Release of Information, Scanning and Analysis. 

  • This position requires 2-3 years of professional experience with medical records and familiarity in working with diverse facets of Health Information Management.   

  • Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records, including HIPAA and TJC standards. 

  • Ability to work effectively with other departments, physicians and all ancillary staff. Strong computer skills with emphasis on MS Office Excel.

Essential Duties:

  • Responds to all requests for medical record information from various requestors including health care providers, patients, attorneys, third-party payors, disability, subpoenas, and internal requestors.  All Release of Information must be in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) federal regulations, state regulations and hospital policy.  Interaction with patients in person or by telephone.

  •  Disassemble, identify and prepare paper medical records into specified document types. 

  •     Analyze content of the paper record to determine if information needs to be scanned.

  • Scan medical record using scanner into the appropriate Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Ability to identify various medical record document types to ensure appropriate labeling and indexing in EMR.  Perform quality assurance review on scanned document images.

  • Analyze medical reports and information against appropriate quality standards according to state, federal and accrediting agencies requirements for accuracy, completeness, clarity, legibility, timeliness, authentication, date, time restrictions, and content. Notify providers, via the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), for any deficiency noted and record all deficiencies in the appropriate application

  • Knows where to access information and print all types of information from various EMR systems.  Creates imaging discs of radiology film studies for release and downloads imaging discs for storage

  • Ability to utilize computer systems— MS Office with emphasis on Excel,  OnBase, Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) or similar EMR

Education/Experience Level

  • Associate degree in Health Information Management with successful completion of the Accreditation Exam preferred

  • Active membership in AHIMA or equivalent with experience in Health Information Management preferred

  • Minimum of  2-3 years experience in a medical record department with familiarity in working with diverse facets of medical record activities

  • Ability to work effectively with other departments, administration, physicians and all ancillary staff

  • Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records and TJC standards
