Embark on an exhilarating career journey with a full-time Clinical Technician role at the cutting-edge Cytogenetics laboratory within the renowned City of Hope Medical Center in Irwindale! As a key player in this dynamic team, you'll report directly to the supervisor of cytogenetics and enjoy a full-time schedule, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM with a little more flexibility on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Your role will be pivotal in supporting cytogenetic laboratory testing and specimen processing on human tissue, utilizing standardized and established methodologies. You'll work under the direct and constant supervision of licensed personnel, contributing to the success of genetic analysis.

Your responsibilities will include assisting cytogenetic technologists in various facets of accessioning and processing biological specimens, ensuring adherence to standardized institutional and departmental safety procedures. As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Assist with processing cytogenetic specimens for various cell and tissue types.

  • Assist in the preparation and staining of slides, ensuring maximum quality through initial assessment of slide quality, including spreading and mitotic index.
  • Perform accessioning and data entry of patient information following department procedures.
  • Transport specimens for analysis, using appropriate equipment and ensuring proper labeling and inclusion of clinical information on request forms.
  • Proficiently use laboratory equipment and instruments, including incubators, microscopes, centrifuges, freezers, autoclaves, and biohazard hoods.
  • Under the supervision of licensed personnel, participate in the department's quality control, quality assurance / quality improvement program.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness, and follow safety practices in work areas.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • One year of previous clinical laboratory and tissue culture experience
