Position Summary:

The Science & Clinical Communications Senior Manager contributes to a comprehensive research and clinical communications strategy that elevates City of Hope’s research and clinical enterprise. This role supports the Science & Clinical vertical objectives of driving awareness, engagement, and reputation-building efforts that position City of Hope as a global leader in breakthroughs, leading-edge scientific discovery, translational research, and patient-centered clinical innovation.

The Senior Manager supports the strategic counsel of relevant executive leadership, including the Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Physician Executive, Clinical Chairs, and key entity leaders- research faculty, and regional Chief Clinical Officers, and will contribute to internal and external messaging, positioning, and storytelling to effectively communicate the institution’s scientific breakthroughs and clinical advancements.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Strategic Communications & Thought Leadership- Contribute to the development and execution of a system-wide research and clinical communications strategy that aligns with City of Hope’s mission and institutional priorities, ensuring a cohesive and impactful organizational message. Contribute to advising senior leadership and executing strategic initiatives that enhance visibility, manage risk, and strengthen the organization’s influence across media, government, industry, and the public.

Internal Engagement & Research and Clinical Communications- Contribute to internal engagement initiatives and communications that foster collaboration between research and clinical teams, creating a unified and informed community. 

Content Development and Storytelling- Develop impactful, research-driven storytelling that establishes City of Hope as a leader in scientific discovery, clinical excellence, and innovation. Create integrated campaigns, thought leadership articles, op-eds, and white papers, speeches, presentations, and key messaging that reinforce the organization’s vision and drive meaningful engagement.

Cross Functional Collaboration and Integration- Support internal and external research and clinical communications strategies across the system and in partnership with the marketing team, regional/entity leadership, and regional/entity 

Administrative- Work with external consultants, freelancers, and agencies while managing planning, budgeting, and evaluation of the research enterprise communication programs. Ensure financial oversight for timely, cost-effective execution.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Experience:  8+ years relevant experience in all aspects of communications including ten years in the health care arena. Experience working in an academic medical center or nonprofit hospital preferred. Journalism experience is preferred.
