The successful candidate:

Location: Zion, IL (Fully Onsite – Not Remote)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Position Summary

Contribute to the daily operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) department to ensure accessibility, accountability, and accuracy of medical records. Responsibilities include Release of Information, Scanning/Outside Imaging, and Analysis of medical records.

This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking to maintain the integrity of medical records. You will collaborate effectively with other departments, physicians, and ancillary staff while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage release of information requests in compliance with HIPAA and state laws.

  • Perform scanning and indexing of outside imaging into the EMR system.

  • Analyze medical records for accuracy, completeness, legibility, timeliness, authentication, and compliance with documentation standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information.

  • Utilize computer systems such as MS Office (Excel), OnBase, and Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) or similar EMR platforms.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred; successful completion of the Accreditation Exam is a plus.

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in a medical records department with exposure to diverse HIM functions.

  • Active membership in AHIMA or equivalent professional organization preferred.

  • Familiarity with federal and state laws governing medical records and TJC standards.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
